Ken - I couldn't agree more! It's almost laughable, really. Actually, not almost: it IS laughable. In a very, very sad and borderline frightening sort of way.

I agree 100% with you, K. As one of your supporters I hope I have the chance to shake your hand to thank you for your excellent coverage of student events throughout this past academic year.

A complaint was forwarded to the SAC re: the various decisions surrounding this matter.

But never picked up.

The Dubois/Savva ordeal never went to the SAC. It went to the Elections Committee (Savva) and the Disciplinary Committee (Dubois). If I remember correctly, details were revealed in camera, but both bodies dismissed the complaints.

The U-Pass appeal wasn't dealt with either. We needed three arbitrators to go through the process. There were five, but three of them resigned. And the people in charge of the SAC (who shouldn't be due to conflict of interests, but anyways) didn't even publicize those vacancies and organize more interviews. So the arbitrators decided to submit a non binding report, with recommendations.

Basically, we went from an unfair arbitration process to no arbitration at all.

Guess I can fairly comment on this issue. Appointments to the SAC have always been difficult, primarily due to the restrictions on membership. As far as I recall, the majority of members are law students, a group of individuals who don't really have time for anything other than school, and REALLY don't have time for a volunteer position.

This brings me back to the old stand-by: student unions who need expert help but do not have enough money for salaried professionals should take advantage of honorariums more often. How easy would it be to setup a process in which they give money to the university in your name?

Granted, this works under the assumption that students are more likely to do things for compensation. And, with the way the current administration is taking grants and scholarships, it will continue on this way.

Can I disassociate myself from the SFUO? They clearly don't represent me. Why do I need to join a union in order to get an education?
